Cooper's career began in 1950 when he joined the U.S. Navy as a submarine officer. After leaving the Navy in 1957, he began working at Motorola, a company that had been founded in 1928 and had become a major player in the electronics industry. Despite its limitations, the DynaTAC was a game-changer. It was the first device to allow people to make phone calls from anywhere, without the need for a landline connection. The DynaTAC was also the first device to introduce the concept of a personal phone number, something that is now an essential part of our lives.


Cooper's invention paved the way for the development of the modern mobile phone. In the years that followed, Motorola and other companies continued to refine and improve on the technology, making mobile phones smaller, more affordable, and more powerful.
